MOMNT is a pregnancy wellbeing app for adults aged 18 and over. This policy explains what the MOMNT iPhone and Android app reads, where that information is kept, and your choices.
In short: MOMNT needs an account. Your nights and check-ins are saved to that account so your score works and your history is still there if you change phone. Whether we may also use them to improve MOMNT's scores is a separate question, and you answer it. We never sell your data and we never use it for advertising.
What the app reads
With your permission, MOMNT reads the following from Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android), as recorded by your watch, ring or phone:
- Heart rate and resting heart rate
- Heart rate variability
- Breathing rate while you sleep
- Sleeping wrist or skin temperature
- Sleep
- Steps
- Time in daylight (iPhone only)
- Mindful minutes
- State of Mind, meaning how you log feeling in the Health app (iPhone only)
- Pregnancy or lactation status, if you track it (iPhone only)
All of these are optional. Whatever you don't allow is simply not used, and MOMNT still works with the rest.
Pregnancy and lactation status is used to fill in your due date or your baby's birthday so you don't have to type it.
Time in daylight and mindful minutes are used to offer you occasional suggestions, such as a walk outside after a week with less daylight than usual.
MOMNT only reads this data. It never writes to, changes or deletes anything in Apple Health or Health Connect.
What you enter
- Your due date
- Whether you have ever had depression
- Your answers to the weekly check-in questionnaires (EPDS and GAD-7)
The weekly check-in uses two published questionnaires, unchanged and with credit to the people who created them:
Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS): Cox JL, Holden JM, Sagovsky R. Detection of postnatal depression. Development of the 10-item Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. British Journal of Psychiatry. 1987;150:782–786.
GAD-7: Spitzer RL, Kroenke K, Williams JBW, Löwe B. A brief measure for assessing generalized anxiety disorder: the GAD-7. Archives of Internal Medicine. 2006;166(10):1092–1097.
Neither set of authors is connected with MOMNT, and neither has reviewed or endorsed it.
Your account
MOMNT needs an account, which is just your email address and a six-digit code. There is no password.
Where it's kept
Your nights, your check-in answers and your scores are saved to your MOMNT account. They are sent over an encrypted connection and stored encrypted.
Your score is worked out on MOMNT's servers rather than on your phone, so the same answer comes back on any phone you sign in on. The last score is also kept on your phone, so MOMNT still shows it when you have no signal.
Your data is stored under a random participant ID. Your email sits beside that ID so you can sign back in, and is not part of what the team looks at. The app has no analytics and no advertising.
What is saved to your account
- One summary per night, covering the categories above. Not minute-by-minute readings.
- Your weekly check-in answers, your due date or your baby's birth date, and your answer about past depression
- Your Wellbeing Scores
- Your first name and your email address, and which kind of phone you use
Sharing your data (optional)
Separately from the backup above, MOMNT asks whether the team may use your data to improve its scores. You can say yes or not now, and MOMNT works the same either way. You can change your mind at any time in Settings.
If you say yes, it covers the nights and check-ins already on your account as well as new ones, and the app tells you that before you agree. Every time you turn sharing on or off we record the date, so there is a record of what you agreed to and when.
How we use shared data
We use shared data to improve MOMNT's scores for you and other moms: the MOMNT team uses it to learn how pregnancy changes these signals and to make the scoring more accurate. The team works with the data without your name or email.
We do not use shared data for anything else, and we never share it with your doctor, midwife or care team. When your nights show high strain, the app suggests that you talk to your doctor or midwife yourself.
How long we keep it
Your account keeps your data until you delete your account. Data you shared is kept to improve MOMNT:
- If you stop sharing, nothing new is added to what the team may use, and what you already shared is kept. Your backup is not affected.
- If you delete your account, your data is deleted, except data you chose to share, which is kept without your name or email. What is kept sits under a random ID that is no longer linked to you, so after that we can't find it to delete it.
- To have your shared data deleted, email us from the address you signed in with, before deleting your account. We delete it within 30 days, including copies in our provider's encrypted backups. Improvements already made to MOMNT's scoring using data that doesn't identify you can't be undone.
Where it's stored
Shared data is stored by our database provider, Supabase, on servers in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest. Only you and the MOMNT team can access it. Nobody reads your check-in answers as they arrive, so sharing does not alert anyone.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your data
- Use health data for advertising or marketing
- Share health data with your care team, insurers, employers, data brokers or any other third party (Supabase only stores it on our behalf)
- Use your data to improve MOMNT unless you have said yes
- Store your health data in iCloud
Your choices
- Change Health access: on iPhone, open Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › MOMNT. On Android, open Health Connect › App permissions › MOMNT.
- Stop sharing: in the app, open Settings › Data sharing and turn it off. Nothing new is added to what the team may use, and what you already shared is kept.
- Delete your account: open Settings › Delete account. If you delete your account, your data is deleted, except data you chose to share, which is kept without your name or email.
- Delete your shared data: email us from the address you signed in with, before deleting your account.
- Delete data on your phone: delete the MOMNT app. This does not delete your account. Your data in Apple Health or Health Connect is not affected.
- Get a copy or ask a question: email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Not a medical device
MOMNT is a wellbeing tool, not a diagnosis, and it doesn't alert anyone. If your results worry you, or you don't feel like yourself, talk to your doctor or midwife. If you are in the US and in crisis, call or text 988.
Who MOMNT is for
MOMNT is for adults aged 18 and over. By creating an account you confirm that you are at least 18. MOMNT is not designed for or directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you think someone under 18 has an account, email support@momnt.health and we'll delete it.
Website
momnt.health is hosted by Cloudflare, which may process basic technical information (such as IP address) to deliver and protect the site.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and post the new version here.
